Bio-computation is any biological measurement, whether obtained in silico, or in vitro / in vivo. The former refers to traditional bio-informatics where biological inputs are analyzed by a computer (on silicon-based chips), the latter refers to computation of biology by biology (either in a dish/in “glass” technically, and in a living system).
The new form of bio-computation is more easily accessible as a service. We refer to the following process as “distributed bio-computation” where a sample is shipped as input and the output is information provided by the third party. The “patient-in-a-dish” technology more accurately called micro-physiological systems is advanced and often challenging to use. That is why services are a useful stepping stone before standardization is adopted and these advanced technologies penetrate the market reaching the hospitals and patients.
